Horse and Cattle exhibitors will be entitled to free 5-day passes according to the following scale 1 pass per animal up to a maximum of 4 passes per entry. If entitled to a free pass, exhibitors may purchase an additional 5-day pass at $15 for each free pass.
Parking
* NO UNAUTHORIZED vehicles will be allowed on the main exhibition grounds after 12 noon. * No vehicle passing through the gates will be permitted to carry passengers. * No empty trucks and trailers can be parked on the main Exhibition grounds without the permission of the Managers. A suitable area will be set aside for these vehicles. * All trucks, trailers or campers used for living accommodations must register at the Exhibition office and will receive a designated lot. ALL TRAILERS ARE PARKED AT THE OWNER’S RISK.
CODE OF ETHICS FOR EXHIBITORS OF LIVESTOCK AT EXHIBITIONS AND FAIRS IN NOVA SCOTIA
Exhibitors of livestock at exhibitions and fairs in Nova Scotia shall always deport themselves with honesty and good sportsmanship. Their conduct in this competitive and showmanship environment shall always reflect the highest standards of honor and dignity to promote the advancement of agricultural awareness and education. This code applies to all livestock entered and/or offered in any event at fairs and exhibitions. Owners, exhibitors, trainers, and all responsible persons who violate the code of ethics will forfeit premiums, awards and entry fees and may be prohibited from future fairs and exhibitions in accordance with the rules adopted by the respective fairs and exhibitions in Nova Scotia. Exhibitors who violate this code of ethics negatively impact on the integrity of all livestock exhibitors and may be prohibited from entry and/or offered competition at all livestock shows in Nova Scotia.
The following is a list of guidelines for all exhibitions and fairs in Nova Scotia:
1. Any liquid or substance not considered part of an accepted or normal diet for livestock is deemed illegal and inhumane (for example: the use of alcoholic, carbonated or caffeinated beverages or chocolate flavored nutritional supplements. 2. Any time after an animal arrives on the fair or exhibition site or premises, all treatments involving the use of drugs and/or medication for the sole purpose of protecting health of the animal shall be administered by a licenced veterinarian upon notification to the manager of the fair or exhibition.
3. The use of showing and/or handling practices or devices such as striking animals to cause swelling, using electrical contrivance or other similar practices are not acceptable and are prohibited.
4. The application of this code of ethics provides for absolute responsibility for an animal’s condition by the owner, exhibitor, or participant whether or not he or she was instrumental in or had knowledge of the treatment of the animal in contravention of this code of ethics.
5. The act of entering an animal is the giving of consent by the owner/exhibitor to have the fair or exhibition take disciplinary action for violation of this code of ethics, and any other rules of the fair or exhibition, without recourse against the fair or exhibition.
6. The Exhibition Association of Nova Scotia, in working with the livestock associations that use the fairs and exhibitions facilities will conduct random drug testing as a credible deterrent to the use of performance enhancing drugs. A policy will be developed applicable to the cost of the test and recommendations on the penalties.
